Why WordPress Category Pages are Empty?

There are several possible reasons why your WordPress category page might appear empty even though you have assigned categories to your posts:
1. Permalinks not updated:
- After adding categories to your posts, you need to flush your permalinks for WordPress to update its internal system and recognize the association between categories and posts.
- To do this, go to Settings > Permalinks in your WordPress dashboard and click the “Save Changes” button, even if you haven’t made any modifications to the permalink structure itself. This usually triggers an update and resolves the issue.
2. Visibility settings:
- Ensure the blog posts you assigned categories to are published and not set to draft or pending review. Hidden posts won’t be displayed on category pages.
- Additionally, each post has individual visibility settings you can check. Navigate to Posts > All Posts and view the visibility setting under each post. Ensure it’s set to “Public” to be visible on the category page.
3. Theming and plugins:
- Some themes or plugins may interfere with how category pages are displayed.
- If the above solutions don’t work, consider temporarily disabling plugins and switching to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-Three to see if the issue persists. This can help identify whether a specific plugin or theme is causing the problem.
4. Caching issues:
- If you’re using a caching plugin, it’s possible the cached version of your category page isn’t displaying the updated information. Try clearing your cache to ensure the latest version with your categorized posts is shown.
Additional tips:
- Recategorize posts: If you’re unsure which category is assigned to each post, go to Posts > All Posts and check the “Categories” column. You can also recategorize them from this view.
- Verify category slug: Make sure the slug (the URL part) of your category is not accidentally set to something that won’t match any posts, like “empty” or “uncategorized.”
By following these steps and checking each potential cause, you should be able to identify the reason behind your empty category page and fix it to display your categorized posts correctly.
